Cleaning & Disinfection

GeoSIL is a multi-component, clear, odourless, water or surface disinfectant, that does not contain chlorine, bleach, alcohol, formaldehydes, phenols, ammonium compounds, quats, sodium hydroxide or other halogen compounds. It is not carcinogenic or mutagenic, and is made from sustainable ingredients.

Bird Flu & Swine Flu Control

The ease of travel we all now enjoy ensures that communicable diseases now easily travel further & faster than ever before. Recent concerns about the spread of Bird Flu (Avian Influenza H5N1) and Swine Flu (H1N1) have been widely publicised, and continue to be of great concern.

GeoSIL has been successfully tested against both of these viruses and proven to be completely effective. GeoSIL can provide protection by use either as a surface disinfectant spray, or as an aerial misting disinfectant.

GeoSIL has the unique advantage in that, used sensibly, it is safe to use in the presence of people, animals, plants & food. It does not need to be neutralized or rinsed after use, and treated surfaces do not have to be wiped, thereby avoiding the risk of cross infection or re-contamination. Moss & Mould Control

Many types of mould can be toxic and have the potential to cause severe health problems. These can be brought on by touching or inhaling mould spores, and are a particular concern in homes, working areas, and food processing areas.

GeoSIL may be used effectively to control mould in;

  • Bathrooms, showers, toilets, or changing areas.
  • Food preparation areas.
  • Decks, roofs, gutters and water collection areas.

GeoSIL is powerful, effective, and very fast acting. Its oxidising action begins immediately, unlike many other harsh slow acting mould control products. It is one of the few mould control products safe to use inside the house around people, food and pets.

Shopping Trolley Hygiene

Extensive publicity has been given recently to the problem of shopping trolley hygiene as the results of some well publicised research has emerged. Researchers from the University of Arizona tested sixty grocery store shopping carts for their bacterial content, and made alarming findings. In addition, studies by the Centres for Disease Control in eight other US States has shown conclusively that shopping trolley handles are consistently sources of high levels of bacteria & viruses. These have been found to include diarrhoea-causing Campylobacter, and the life threatening Salmonella. In addition E.Coli., Staphylococcus, Listeria, and bacteria counts many times above levels considered safe have been found to be not uncommon. In the United States, the problem has become so widely acknowledged that it has been given the name "shopping cart sickness".

Many spray-on disinfectants and antibacterial wipes have been used to try to address this problem with only limited success (See 'Wiping Spreads Germs" below) GeoSIL provides one of the few effective solutions to this increasing problem.

Wiping Spreads Germs

GeoSIL disinfectants can be used as no-rinse sanitisers for general disinfection of work surfaces, sanitary facilities, medical & veterinary premises, horticultural and agricultural facilities and equipment I premises not operating under the requirements of the NZFSA.

GeoSIL is approved by New Zealand Food & Safety Authority as a category C41 sanitiser in NZFSA approved food processing premises.

It can be shown that wiping surfaces is much less effective than generally thought.

Most disinfectants require a length of time to kill germs, and with many products this can be anything from 10 to 15 minutes. Most people spray a surface, and then immediately wipe the disinfectant off. The disinfectant is therefore not in contact with the surface long enough to be effective, and the surface will not be disinfected. Repeated use of this procedure (sub-lethal dose) allows bacteria to develop resistance to the particular chemical, to the point where it becomes almost completely ineffective.

In addition to this, if the cleaning cloth is then used to clean other surfaces, contamination will be transferred from surface to surface, and cross-contamination is unavoidable.

The same problem occurs with the use of anti-bacterial wipes. The disinfectant is not in contact with the surface long enough to be effective. Eventually, the bacteria b ecomes resistant to the wipe chemicals.

Cleaning sponges have been found to harbour millions of bacteria and viruses.

GeoSIL is unique for a number of reasons;

  • It's very fast action means that it is effective in a much shorter space of time. It immediately goes to work the instant it reached the surface.
  • It can safely be left on the surface to dry naturally. This avoids the potential to re-contaminate the surface with cleaning clothes, and to spread the infection to other surfaces.
  • It leaves behind an almost undetectable silver ion barrier on the surface to provide an antibacterial shield, and inhibit the re-growth of bacteria.

GeoSIL DS is a ready-to-use (RTU) surface disinfectant spray, ideally suited to this use. GeoSIL and GeoSIL 150 can be diluted for use as a surface disinfectant also.
